Russian Embassy in Iran condemns US, Israel for strikes near Orthodox church
The diplomatic mission said that due to the military recklessness of the United States and Israel, the Orthodox community in Iran is unable to visit the church
TEHRAN, April 1. /TASS/. The Russian Embassy in Iran condemned the airstrikes by the United States and Israel for causing harm to civilian infrastructure and sites of religious and cultural heritage, including St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Tehran.
"We note that St. Nicholas Cathedral was damaged during Great Lent and ahead of one of the main religious holidays, Easter. Due to the military recklessness of the United States and Israel, the Orthodox community in Iran is unable to visit the church," the diplomatic mission wrote on its Telegram channel.
The embassy strongly condemned the ongoing US-Israeli aggression against Iran for its growing impact on civilian infrastructure and religious and cultural heritage sites.
Earlier, the cathedral’s cleric, Hegumen Varlaam (Dulsky), told TASS that St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tehran sustained damage during airstrikes targeting the former US Embassy building.
