MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin has approved Russia’s bid to chair APEC in 2035, with the forum’s economies having been informed of this decision, said Marat Berdyev, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Senior Official at APEC.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved Russia’s bid to chair APEC in 2035. He officially notified APEC Executive Director E. Pedrosa and his colleagues at the forum, senior officials, of the head of state’s decision," according to a statement published on his Telegram channel.
"We will pay special attention to promoting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s strategic initiative to establish a Greater Eurasian Partnership, as well as domestic developments in the fields of trade, investment, digital economy, energy, the agro-industrial complex, and the creation of transport and logistics corridors," he noted.
The implementation of the chairmanship functions involves around 200 events, the diplomat said. "They include: a meeting of economic leaders, foreign ministry and trade ministry meetings, about ten specialized ministry conferences, meetings of senior officials, committees, and working groups," the ambassador noted. "Russia previously chaired this leading economic forum in 2012. As part of this role, we formed a significant package of practical agreements, embodied in the declaration of the Vladivostok summit and the results of a whole series of industry ministry meetings," he stressed.
