Russia, Tajikistan advocate for fairer int'l trade system — presidents’ joint statement
The parties consider political pressure exerted on third countries through illegitimate restrictive mechanisms unacceptable
DUSHANBE, October 9. /TASS/. Moscow and Dushanbe would like to see a fairer international trade system, one where unilateral coercive measures are not used, according to a joint statement by Russian and Tajik Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emomali Rahmon.
"The parties are committed to creating a fairer and more non-discriminatory international trade system and strongly condemn the use of unilateral coercive measures, including those of an extraterritorial nature, in violation of the UN Charter," the statement says.
Russia and Tajikistan note that such practices are contrary to the interests of the entire international community and undermine global food and energy security. The parties consider political pressure exerted on third countries through illegitimate restrictive mechanisms unacceptable.
"In this regard, the parties also stress the importance of sustainable development, food security, and the promotion of a green economy and energy as integral elements of the global agenda," the document says.
Moscow and Dushanbe also note with satisfaction the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation, to which the work of the relevant intergovernmental commission makes a significant contribution. The countries express mutual interest in further strengthening economic cooperation, paying particular attention to improving the investment climate and increasing the number of joint projects.
Industrial cooperation
Russia and Tajikistan confirmed their commitment to strengthening industrial cooperation by creating favorable conditions for entrepreneurship and providing state support for the implementation of joint industrial cooperation projects in promising areas such as light industry, mining, metallurgy, and other sectors of mutual interest.
To increase mutual trade flows of industrial products, the countries will also take measures to eliminate barriers to foreign trade in accordance with national legislation.
Noting the importance of developing joint industrial infrastructure to boost investment activity and consistently increase bilateral trade, Moscow and Dushanbe will facilitate the creation of an industrial park in Tajikistan, building on the agreements reached by Putin and Rahmon on March 17, 2025.
"The parties confirm their intention to optimize production chains and expand cooperation in high-tech sectors, including e-commerce, digitalization of processes, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies," the statement reads.
Agriculture and Logistics
Russia and Tajikistan noted the growth of agricultural and food trade, and welcomed the development of cooperation in agricultural education, plant breeding and seed production, and other areas of agriculture.
Cooperation in transport and logistics, including the implementation of digital technologies, will also continue to develop, ensuring favorable conditions for increased freight turnover. In this regard, Moscow and Dushanbe noted the strategic importance of developing a system of sustainable and efficient transport corridors in the Eurasian region and improving transport and logistics links between the two countries based on principles of mutual benefit and consideration of each other's interests.
Environmental protection and nuclear energy
"The parties will continue to strengthen cooperation in environmental protection, including the development of a system of specially protected natural areas, the conservation of biodiversity and glaciers, and the interaction of research institutes," the document states.
The parties stressed the importance of developing depoliticized and mutually beneficial cooperation in environmental protection and promoting the water agenda in the international arena.
"The Russian Federation highly appreciates the international initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan to declare 2025 the International Year of Glacier Conservation and the significance of the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation held in Dushanbe in May 2025," the joint statement says.
Moscow and Dushanbe recognize the ongoing work to reclaim territories in the republic impacted by uranium mining operations as effective and socially significant, and reaffirm their commitment to continuing cooperation in this area.
Recognizing the importance of developing joint projects to create environmentally friendly and sustainable energy sources, the countries expressed their readiness to establish mutually beneficial cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
