Russia, China to strengthen dialogue between security councils — Shoigu

The Russian Security Council secretary highlighted that during the visit, particular attention was given to aligning Moscow and Beijing’s strategies within the framework of multilateral groups and forums

MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. Moscow and Beijing have reached an unprecedented level of cooperation and aim to further enhance dialogue along the lines of security councils, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu stated in an interview with TASS.

"Today, Russia-China relations are at their peak in history. We are strategic partners," he emphasized. "During my working visit to Beijing, the unique nature of the Russian-Chinese ties was reaffirmed. We discussed important issues on the bilateral agenda, including the prospects of strengthening dialogue along the lines of security councils," the official explained.

Shoigu highlighted that during the visit, particular attention was given to aligning Moscow and Beijing’s strategies within the framework of multilateral groups and forums, and the goals of reinforcing the UN’s role as a central platform for resolving the most urgent international issues.

"Our nations are continuously advancing the agreements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which call for a significant increase in the scope of bilateral trade, the development of logistics projects, enhanced financial and industrial cooperation, deepened partnership in the energy sector, and the steady expansion of cooperation in the fields of technology, innovation, agriculture, and resource management," he concluded.

Shoigu was in Beijing in late February for talks with Xi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions covered bilateral matters in the security field, as well as international and regional challenges.
