Russian medics, rescuers arrive in Myanmar to deal with quake’s aftermath
According to the ministry, the rescuers have brought along all the equipment necessary for search-and-rescue operations
MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Two planes of the Russian Emergencies Ministry carrying rescuers and medics have arrived in Myanmar to assist in dealing with the aftermath of a powerful earthquake, the ministry’s press service told TASS.
"Two aircraft of the Russian Emergencies Ministry have landed at an airport of the city of Yangon in order to provide aid in dealing with the aftermath of the destructive earthquake," the press service said.
According to the ministry, the rescuers have brought along all the equipment necessary for search-and-rescue operations.
They are ready to hold round-the-clock operations at several sites simultaneously, aided by drones allowing to conduct air reconnaissance and monitoring.
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.2 struck Myanmar on March 28. According to Xinhua, the number of victims has surpassed 1,600. The tremors were also felt in China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
