"These risks require appropriate actions on Russia's part and an adequate response from the IAEA," Alexey Likhachev noted

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Increasing risks to the nuclear safety of the Kursk nuclear power plant (NPP) require an appropriate response from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation’s CEO Alexey Likhachev stated following a meeting with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in Moscow.

"[We are indicating] an escalation of risks in recent weeks and months. Among them are the incursion of Ukrainian troops into the Kursk Region and the corresponding threat to the Kursk NPP, dozens of downed drones, missiles heading towards the Smolensk NPP [and approaching the] energy infrastructure," he said. "All of this, unfortunately, increases nuclear safety risks that require appropriate actions on our part and an adequate response from the IAEA," Likhachev noted.

"Now, we have informed you. We greatly appreciate the IAEA's participation in this work," the Rosatom CEO added.
