MOSCOW, December 21. /TASS/. It depends on the US if Russia’s new ambassador will arrive in Washington before US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS.
"It’s clear that our new ambassador should not expect to receive a formal approval before the New Year. As for further schedules, it depends on the US. It’s hard to make predictions," he said, when asked if Russia’s new ambassador would depart for the US before Trump’s inauguration.
"However, since he is a very prominent and experienced diplomat, I think the host country should have no doubt that he will show a high level of professionalism and his efforts will aim to at least slightly improve bilateral relations," Ryabkov noted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier relieved Anatoly Antonov of his duties as ambassador to Washington. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a new envoy would be appointed in the near future. According to the Russian Foreifgn Minister, a new envoy has been chosen.
