MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russian senators passed over 560 laws in the spring and fall sessions of 2024, Valentina Matviyenko, chairperson of the Federation Council (upper house of parliament), said at the final plenary meeting of the fall session.

"Over 560 laws were approved at the 24 meetings this year, many of which had been initiated by the senators. In fact, this year set a record in terms of the number of legislative initiatives submitted by the senators. They initiated a total of 320 bills either on their own or together with members of the State Duma (lower house of parliament - TASS) and other participants in the legislative process; 140 of those became laws. But what’s most important is that their content and meaning fully met the demands of the time we live in," the Federation Council speaker pointed out.

Matviyenko noted that the Federation Council’s biggest focus remained to support troops participating in Russia’s special military operation, as well as their families. Besides, in her words, support for families with children was at the top of the upper house’s agenda this year. "Highly important bills have been approved, aimed at protecting our traditional family values. I’m talking about the ban on the adoption and guardianship of Russian children by the citizens of countries that allow sex change, as well as the ban on the promotion of a child-free way of life," the senior senator stressed.

Matviyenko also emphasized that the initiatives originating from the Federation Council "often launch efforts to resolve the most pressing issues facing the state.".
