The Russian president still noted that "today, especially in today’s Russia, we must not do anything that could divide the country"

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin speculated that the country will one day come to a consensus on burying Vladimir Lenin in a proper grave, but now is not the time to make any decisions that could divide the nation, given this sensitive time in Russia’s history.

"Regarding the burial of Lenin’s body: the country will probably come to this one day. But today, especially in today’s Russia, we must not do anything that could divide the country," the president said during the combined Direct Line Q&A session and year-end press conference.

He made this remark answering a question from Ksenia Aksyonova, a reporter from the Spas TV channel.

Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin, founder of the Soviet state, died on November 21, 1924. On January 25, the USSR Central Executive Committee ordered to preserve Lenin’s body in a mausoleum and make it open to the viewing public. In 1974, the Lenin Mausoleum was taken under state protection as a historical memorial; in 1990, it became a protected UNESCO World Heritage site as a part of the Red Square and Kremlin ensemble.

The burial of Lenin’s body is a popular topic of conversation in Russia.
