BRICS will discuss Syria, common approaches to situation, diplomat says
"As the subject of an inclusive political process, which is expected to define the framework for Syria’s future governance structure and its political organization, gains more urgency, BRICS will undoubtedly address this," Sergey Ryabkov noted
MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. The BRICS bloc plans to deliberate on the situation in Syria and work towards unified approaches to the ongoing developments, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Russia’s Sherpa in the BRICS Sergey Ryabkov stated in an interview with TASS, reflecting on Russia’s leadership of the association.
"Within BRICS, we engage in discussions on all matters related to the Middle East. Naturally, the Syrian situation will be a focal point. Furthermore, BRICS has already established a framework for specialized consultations on Middle Eastern issues, conducted at the level of deputy foreign ministers," the senior diplomat explained. "I expect these deliberations to go beyond mere discussion, evolving into enhanced coordination and, ideally, the articulation of unified approaches," Ryabkov stressed.
"As the subject of an inclusive political process, which is expected to define the framework for Syria’s future governance structure and its political organization, gains more urgency, BRICS will undoubtedly address this. Considering that the current state is fragmented and transitional in every sense of the word, it is only logical for BRICS to prioritize this topic in its discussions," the deputy foreign minister concluded.
