Putin arrives in Minsk for Supreme State Council of Union State

MINSK, December 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Minsk to hold the Supreme State Council of the Union State with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on Friday.

A delegation headed by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko greeted the Russian president upon his arrival at an airport in Minsk. He was welcomed on the red carpet by a guard of honor, presented with flowers, and treated to a traditional Belarusian loaf. The Russian president went to Minsk’s Independence Palace, where he will co-chair a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.

The meeting will focus on security issues. The Kremlin highlighted its top priority as the "strengthening of the common defense space." The sides have also prepared the Russia-Belarus Treaty on security guarantees within the Union State for signing. In addition, the participants are expected to approve several specific decisions on creating a common electricity market and combating illegal imports. The meeting marks the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. Putin and Lukashenko are also scheduled to hold a separate meeting.
