Dialog with Japan on peace treaty possible if Tokyo gives up its hostile course
"Not a single agreement can be made without holding negotiations," official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said
MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. The dialog on the peace treaty with Japan can only be resumed if Tokyo gives up its hostile course against Russia, official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said in a comment.
"We noted the statements of Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba during his program speech in the parliament on November 29 with the accent on the intention of Tokyo to enter into the peace treaty with Russia on the basis of the solution of the so-called territorial problem," Zakharova said. "As the Russian side repeatedly indicated earlier, the full-fledged inter-country dialog with Japan can be resumed exclusive in case official Tokyo rejects the hostile course aimed at inflicting damage to our country and its citizens," she noted.
"Not a single agreement can be made without holding negotiations," the diplomat added.
"We assume that the solution of the territorial problem mentioned by Prime Minister of Japan can only be the international-legal formalization of the de-facto existing border with our country," Zakharova stressed. "Nothing else can be the case in point in the light of the updated Constitution of the Russian Federation," she noted.
