MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Russia’s Oreshnik hypersonic missile is not an intercontinental one so Moscow is not obliged to notify Washington every time it is fired, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

However, since it is a ballistic missile, the US received a notification via Russia’s National Center for Nuclear Threat Reduction, which is an automatic warning system.

"This is not an intercontinental missile, but an intermediate-range one. Thus, Russia is not obligated to issue notifications about its launch. However, there is the National Center for Nuclear Threat Reduction that operates automatically and maintains constant contact with a similar system in the US. Through this system, an automated warning was sent 30 minutes before the launch," the Kremlin spokesman explained.
