MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. While the outgoing U.S. administration continues to pursue a course of reckless escalation in the Ukraine conflict, the Kremlin would prefer Washington to heed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent warnings regarding the use of Western-made weapons against Russia, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We would, of course, like Washington to take note of statements made by the Russian president in St. Petersburg several months ago, where he presented in detail our position on the authorization to use these foreign-made missiles <…> [for strikes] inside Russian territory," Peskov said. "We can see that the outgoing administration has chosen to follow the path of escalation and has been doing so. [There has been] a quite reckless escalation," he told reporters.

Earlier, Putin stressed that the Ukrainian army is unable to fire the latest Western-made long-range missiles on its own without support from NATO satellite feeds and the involvement of the bloc’s military.

According to Putin, such a decision would mean "nothing other than direct involvement of NATO, the United States, and European countries in the war in Ukraine." Meanwhile, such "direct involvement would radically change the nature and character of the conflict," and Russia "will make corresponding decisions, based on the threats" that will be posed to it, the Russian leader emphasized.
