STOCKHOLM, November 20. /TASS/. Stockholm is aligned with the collective West’s strategy to deal a strategic defeat on Russia, the country’s new ambassador to Sweden, Sergey Belyayev, told TASS in an interview, saying that Moscow has been registering increased military activity in the Nordic country.

"We have registered intensified military activity in Sweden since its accession to NATO. We have repeatedly stated that, today, Sweden's foreign policy mimics that of the collective West’s, that is, to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia," the Russian envoy said. "At present, the US-led alliance is ramping up its military capabilities on its eastern flanks. Unprecedented drills to practice military operations against Russia are taking place on Swedish territory," he added.

According to Belyayev, Russia saw clearly that "Stockholm’s push for membership in the military bloc can only escalate tensions in the Baltic and Arctic regions, transforming them from cooperation zones into a sphere of potential military and political confrontation." Therefore, he said, Russia is monitoring the situation as it assesses potential risks and threats.

"Our military make corresponding conclusions. As you know, the Leningrad Military District has been revived in the northern direction to mitigate challenges. Further decisions to ensure Russia’s security will be made depending on how the situation unfolds," the diplomat explained. "Russia threatens no one, but it will not compromise on its security," he emphasized.
