MOSCOW, November 19. /TASS/. A provision in Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine, approved by President Vladimir Putin, mandates that part of the country’s nuclear forces will remain on constant combat alert.

The updated section introduces a new paragraph titled "Maintaining the permanent readiness of the allocated part of nuclear deterrent forces and means for combat use." This provision did not exist in the previous version of the doctrine.

Both the updated and earlier versions of the document emphasize the existence of "combat-ready forces and means capable of inflicting irreparable damage to a potential adversary in any situation through the secure use of nuclear weapons."

The previous version of the Russian nuclear doctrine was approved in June 2020. It replaced a similar document adopted ten years earlier.
