Putin made Russia’s position on long-range missile strikes perfectly clear — Kremlin

MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified Moscow’s position on the use of US missiles for strikes inside Russia back in September, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on Western media reports about a decision by the US and some European countries to authorize such attacks.
"We have certainly taken note of media reports on the matter, which don’t cite any official sources," he told reporters. "The head of state clearly explained his position - the position of our country - in a statement he made at a cultural forum in St. Petersburg. It was just a few months ago," Peskov noted.
"Everything was made perfectly clear," he stressed. "I simply suggest revisiting what the president said," the Kremlin spokesman added.
The New York Times reported earlier, citing sources, that US President Joe Biden had authorized the use of US-made ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles for strikes inside Russia, namely the Kursk Region.
Putin stressed earlier that without Western assistance, Ukraine was unable to launch strikes inside Russia because those required satellite intelligence and mission input data.
"If such a decision is made, it will mean nothing but the direct involvement of NATO countries, including the US and European nations, in the war in Ukraine. They will be directly involved, which will certainly change the very essence and nature of the conflict," Putin stated on September 12. According to him, in such a case, Russia "will take appropriate decisions, depending on the threats" that will be created.
