There is chance to stop war in Middle East under Trump — Russian diplomat
"It is too early to talk about this because we should wait at least for the president’s inauguration," Alexander Lavrentyev noted
MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. There is a chance to end the war in the Middle East under Donald Trump’s presidency, Russian presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev told TASS.
"It is too early to talk about this because we should wait at least for the president’s inauguration. Probably, after January 20 it will be more or less clear whether any changes in the US foreign policy could follow. Naturally, we think that we will see such changes," he said. "We know Mr. Trump, but, of course, we will see whether there will be any chances in the position on the Middle East."
"But, anyway, we hope that some agreements, including on Syria, will be reached," he added.
"The conflict [in Syria] has been continuing for more than 13 years, nearly 14 years. So, its is high time to end it, the more so as Trump has pledged to make every effort to prevent armed conflicts on the planet," Lavrentyev noted. "Are there any possibilities for progress? I think yes.".
