Russian diplomat doubts EU economy could rebound unless policy toward Moscow changes
According to Maria Zakharova, the magnitude of the EU's economic problems is "directly proportional to the degree of their complaisance and servility in relations with the US"
MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. EU economy won’t bounce back unless the bloc reconsiders its wrongful policies toward Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"The starting point for improving the economic situation in the EU must inevitably be the recognition that the anti-Russian policy, which was imposed on Brussels by Washington, is fundamentally inconsistent with the interests of the EU. It is essentially anti-EU due to geopolitical issues and history," she said.
According to Zakharova, the magnitude of the EU's economic problems is "directly proportional to the degree of their complaisance and servility in relations with the US." However, the diplomat said, EU representatives cannot and do not want to acknowledge this, as it would mean recognizing the loss of some of their sovereignty.
"It is not surprising that considerable attention at the European Council meeting was paid to [Donald] Trump's victory in the US presidential election and the impact of this victory on transatlantic relations," she went on to say. "I think that even the way the EU contemplates this issue speaks to their absolute dependence on Washington."
According to the spokeswoman, EU representatives cannot accept Trump's election because it makes a critical impact on them.
"For them, apparently, the change of the sovereign in the chair, who governs their lives, is so momentous, and emphasizes their dependence and lack of self-sufficiency so much that they cannot even behave decently," Zakharova said.
