BAKU, November 13. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has held a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of a UN climate conference in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.
The two last met in Moscow in May 2021, focusing on the coronavirus pandemic and other global issues. Mishustin confirmed at the meeting that Russia called for strengthening the UN’s leading role in global affairs and planned to support the organization, working to enhance its authority.
Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Guterres on the sidelines of the BRICS group’s summit in the Russian city of Kazan on October 24. The conversation took place behind closed doors at the UN chief’s request, the Kremlin said.
The 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is being held in Baku on November 11-22. Delegates from over 100 countries are discussing ways to develop effective solutions to combat the negative impact of global warming.
