Moldova's accusations that Russia launching drones into country baseless — ambassador
Oleg Ozerov stressed that "Russia has never launched drones at targets through third countries"
CHISINAU, November 12. /TASS/. Moldova’s claims that Russia is launching drones into the country are completely unsubstantiated, Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov said after a routine meeting in the country’s Foreign Ministry.
"We completely deny these accusations; our position is that they are groundless. Russia has never launched drones at targets through third countries, we simply don’t need to. Moreover, it is still unclear to whom these drones belong," he said, recalling previous similar incidents with downed drones and projectiles on Moldovan territory showed that they were Ukrainian.
"Investigations showed that [in all the previous cases where Russia was blamed] this was the work of Ukrainian air defenses. In this case there is no credible proof that these were Russian drones," the diplomat added.
Earlier, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that two downed drones which were found in the south and north of the country "were launched from the territory of Russia." The ministry described the incident as an "unfriendly gesture." The Moldovan National Police Inspectorate said that one drone was found near the village of Firladeni near the Moldovan town of Causeni, and the other near Borosenii Noi, in the Riscani district. The police published photos of the drones. Both were made of cardboard. Neither carried explosives.
The Moldovan side has repeatedly hurled accusations at Russia in connection with the discovery of drone wreckage on its territory, although most of them were identified by experts as boosters from Ukrainian air defense missiles.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Chisinau’s accusations that Russian drones had allegedly violated Moldovan airspace groundless and categorically rejected them.
