Russian delegation discusses biosecurity cooperation with African countries
The sides exchanged views on threats to biosecurity at the regional and international levels
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. The Russian delegation held bilateral consultations on biosecurity with Guinea, Namibia, and Uganda, the Russian foreign ministry said after the meetings on the sidelines of the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa partnership forum in Sochi.
According to the ministry, the sides exchanged views on threats to biosecurity at the regional and international levels. "The sides also discussed issues of the development of bilateral cooperation in this sphere, as well as ways of strengthening the regime of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC)," the ministry said.
"The sides agreed upon the need for the further close coordination and constructive cooperation both in the bilateral format and within sectoral multilateral formats, first of all the BWC and the United Nations," it added.
The first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa partnership forum was held in the Sirius Federal Territory on November 9 and 10. Around 1,500 delegates, including 45 ministers from African countries, took part.
