Russia, Africa ready to establish dialogue mechanism to strengthen security — statement
The conference participants expressed serious concern about the growing activities of terrorist organizations in various regions of Africa, as well as the threats these organizations pose to the stability and security of African states, the statement said
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. Russia and African countries are ready to establish a dialogue mechanism at the highest level to strengthen security and coordination in the fight against terrorism, the participants in the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum said in a joint statement.
"We confirm our readiness to establish a permanent Russian-African dialogue mechanism at the highest level, which will contribute to building peace, stability and security, as well as coordinating efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, address environmental problems, as well as issues related to food and information security," the document posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website said.
In addition, the conference participants expressed serious concern about the growing activities of terrorist organizations in various regions of Africa, as well as the threats these organizations pose to the stability and security of African states, the statement said. "We welcome the efforts of the African Union in the field of combating and preventing terrorism and violent extremism leading to terrorism, as well as the contribution of relevant African institutions, including the African Center for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACRIT) and the General Assembly of the African Police Cooperation Organization (AFRIPOL)," it said.
The first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum was held on November 9-10 in the Sirius federal territory. The event was attended by about 1,500 delegates, including more than 40 ministers of African countries.
