Results of Budapest summit do not convince EU not to get into US menu — diplomat
Kirill Logvinov added that "the election of the Republic president" in US "is able to speed up the European Union’s transformation"
BRUSSELS, November 9. /TASS/. The modest results of the EU summit in Budapest do not convince that the European Union will be able to remain together with the US at the geopolitical table instead of getting into the US menu, Russia's acting permanent representative to the EU Kirill Logvinov told TASS when commenting on the results of the informal EU summit in Budapest.
"An attempt by EU member states to answer the question framed cursorily by [European Union foreign policy chief] Josep Borrell, who is about to retire, how the EU will be able to remain ‘at table in the geopolitical game instead of getting into the menu’ was the main one among more than modest results of the summit. It should be noted that the Budapest declaration on a new package of increasing the European Union’s competitiveness passed as the first draft answer to this question fully fails to convince that the EU will manage to do that," he said.
With the purpose "of relieving the mood of panic in Europe spurred by the results of the US elections," as well as within the framework "of efforts to maintain the EU solidarity," Donald Trump’s coming to the White House may be used for further centralization of the power in the hands of the European Commission through a new round of reauthorization from European capitals to Brussels, the diplomat noted, adding that "the election of the Republic president is able to speed up the European Union’s transformation.".
