SOCHI, November 8. /TASS/. China is not to blame for the current instability in East Asia; it’s NATO meddling that causes tensions there, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Forum.

"Indeed, the situation in East Asia is far from calm and stable. But China is not to blame," Putin said.

"Of course, China is our closest partner and friend, but I will try to be objective here. Is it China who is creating blocs there?" he said. "No, It’s the United States who is creating military blocs in the region. <…> And now, NATO is also trying to gain a foothold there."

When military alliances are created under strong dominance of one country, "nothing good will come out of it," the Russian leader added. In this case, other members often have to serve interests of the dominating nation. "Let all those, who embrace such proposals so easily, give it a good thought," Putin added.

He acknowledged certain difficulties on the border between India and China. However, wise and competent people who keep the future of their nations in mind, are searching for compromises and will eventually find them, Putin added.

"If this approach continues to gain momentum, compromises can be found, and they will be found," Putin said.

Summing up the discussion, the Russian leader said: "That is why accusing China of cherishing some aggressive plans would be absolutely incorrect. They are not the ones creating aggressive blocs - the United States are.".
