Russia to look at new US administration's proposals for strategic stability – Putin
Russia, Putin said, is basically ready for a dialogue on strategic stability, but "it is necessary for the other side to approach it honestly"
SOCHI, November 8. /TASS/. Russia will look at how the yet-to-be formed US administration will go about the business of formulating its strategic stability proposals, President Vladimir Putin said at the Valdai Discussion Club’s plenary session.
"We will see how a new future US administration will be formulating its proposals on this matter, if at all," Putin said.
Russia, Putin said, is basically ready for a dialogue on strategic stability, but "it is necessary for the other side to approach it honestly, with due regard for all aspects of relations."
"While trying to inflict a strategic defeat on us here they keep telling their people: ‘Guys, don’t you worry, everything is normal, business as usual, don't get scared.’ This does not work. It never happens like that," he explained.
Putin pointed out that it was necessary "to talk about it with open cards calmly, in a businesslike manner, without any double or triple standards". He also recalled that Russia had repeatedly proposed this, but the opposite side preferred to put it on hold.
