Humanity faces risk of plunging into anarchy, loss of values — Putin
"Ever more often democracy is beginning to be interpreted as the rule of the minority rather than the majority," the Russian president said
SOCHI, November 7. /TASS/. There is an alternative to the harmonious and humanistic development of the world - it is a plunge into anarchy, schisms, tyranny and loss of traditional values, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Valdai Discussion Club’s plenary session.
"Will human society be able to remain a society with its ethical humanistic principles, and will humans be able to remain humans?" Putin said about the possible outcome of the struggle of world order concepts. "It would seem that there is no alternative - at first glance. But, unfortunately, there is."
"It is humanity’s plunge into the abyss of aggressive anarchy, internal and external splits, loss of traditional values, new forms of tyranny, the actual neglect of the classical principles of democracy, basic rights and freedoms."
"Ever more often democracy is beginning to be interpreted as the rule of the minority rather than the majority," Putin said. "Some contrast traditional democracy and power by the people and some abstract freedom, for the sake of which democratic procedures, elections, the opinion of the majority, freedom of speech and unbiased media, as some believe, can be neglected. The real threat is rooted in the dictating and transformation into a norm of ideologies that are totalitarian in their essence," Putin concluded.
