During 'honeymoon' with the West Russia became object for pumping out dividends — Kremlin
"In fact, it was a neocolonial regime, all other countries were squeezed dry, all other countries were effectively turned into an object from which dividends were pumped out," Dmitry Peskov stated
MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Speaking at the Znanie (Knowledge) youth marathon, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled the "honeymoon years" of Russia and the West and stated that during that time Russia has turned into an object for pumping out dividends.
"After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the world de facto became unipolar, one country became the hegemon in all matters - in terms of economy it became the most powerful economy, in world politics, it actually became the world's gendarme and it began to force other countries of the world to live by the rules - not by international law, but by the rules," Peskov said.
He specified that the US established these rules "in its own way and changed them as it pleased." "In fact, it was a neocolonial regime, all other countries were squeezed dry, all other countries were effectively turned into an object from which dividends were pumped out," the Kremlin official stated.
"This includes our country as well. After the break-up of the Soviet Union, having indulged in the euphoria of the honeymoon years with this very collective West (as it seemed to us back then), it also turned into an object of dividend pumping," the Kremlin representative admitted.
"We thought then that it would work out well, that it would work out on equal terms. It didn't work out! And it wasn't our fault," the Kremlin representative stressed. He expressed confidence that the world is now moving toward a more just multipolar system.
