Russia to defend national interests in cooperation with new US administration — MFA

MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Moscow will defend its national interests while remaining focused on attaining the goals of the special military operation in its engagement with the next US administration, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement commenting on the US elections.
"Russia will work with the new administration when it assumes office in the White House by firmly defending its national interests and staying focused on achieving all goals set in the special military operation," the ministry said. "Our terms have not changed and are well-known in Washington," Russia’s diplomatic agency emphasized.
That said, Moscow has no illusions about US President-elect Donald Trump, who is well known in Russia, or the new composition of Congress, where the Republicans, according to early results, will gain a majority," the ministry said.
"The ruling political elite in the United States has been committed to the policy of 'containing Moscow,' sticking to the anti-Russian course, regardless of which party it belongs to," the statement reads. "This policy is not subject to fluctuations of the domestic political barometer in the United States, whether it is 'America First' as interpreted by Donald Trump and his supporters, or the 'rules-based world order' — the obsession of the Democrats," the ministry pointed out.
Meanwhile, the US presidential victory secured by Trump, who is returning to the White House after a four-year break, "certainly reflects dissatisfaction among the Americans with both the performance of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party’s election program proposed by its hastily endorsed candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced the incumbent head of state," the ministry argued.
Trump’s comeback may exacerbate "domestic tensions and widen the rift between the opposing camps," the ministry warned.
Voting in the US presidential election ended on Wednesday morning, Moscow time. While official results have yet to be announced, Fox News has already projected that Trump is leading the election with 277 Electoral College votes, out of the 270 needed to win. Trump himself has already declared himself the 47th President of the United States. US House Speaker Mike Johnson has congratulated ‘President-elect’ Trump, as have foreign leaders.
