Upper house committee supports ratification of Russia-DPRK partnership treaty
According to the document, if either signatory is subjected to an armed attack, the other will immediately provide military and other assistance
MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. The Federation Council’s committee on international affairs has supported and recommended the upper house to approve the ratification of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The treaty was signed in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024 and submitted to the State Duma for ratification by President Vladimir Putin on October 14. According to the document, if either signatory is subjected to an armed attack, the other will immediately provide military and other assistance.
The treaty stipulates that the parties on a permanent basis maintain and develop, in accordance with their national legislation and international obligations, relations of comprehensive strategic partnership based on the principles of mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial inviolability, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and other principles of international law relating to friendly relations and cooperation between states.
In the event of an imminent threat of an act of armed aggression against one of the parties, the signatories shall, at the request of one of them, immediately activate bilateral channels for consultations with a view to coordinating their positions and agreeing on possible practical measures to assist each other to help eliminate the threat. If one of the parties is subjected to an armed attack by any state or several states and finds itself in a state of war, the other party shall immediately provide military and other assistance by all means at its disposal in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and in the laws of Russia and the DPRK.
