Top Russian diplomat meets with UN secretary-general in New York

MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Russian foreign ministry said in a Telegram post.
The ministry published the photo of Lavrov and Guterres shaking hands.
In a statement, released after the meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry said "present-day geopolitical situation and emerging trends were discussed" and "the most pressing issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone were examined."
Lavrov "once again emphasized the importance of the UN administration and staff's steadfast compliance with the principles of impartiality and equidistance, including with regard to crimes committed by the Kiev regime."
The top Russian diplomat also made "an urgent appeal to prevent UN agencies from becoming embroiled into politicized pseudo-peaceful initiatives in the context of the Ukrainian crisis."
"Special attention was paid to various aspects of cooperation between Russia and the UN," the statement says.
Lavrov also said that the UN secretary-general needs to invoke the arbitration procedure against the United States over Washington’s violations of the Headquarters Agreement with the UN.
In turn, the office of the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General told reporters the following: "The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed latest developments on issues on the agenda of the Security Council. They exchanged views on the war in Ukraine and its regional and global implications. They also discussed UN-Russia cooperation, as well as the implementation of the Pact for the Future."
Earlier in the day, Lavrov met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Jordan Ayman Safadi; Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan; Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov; Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali Abdoulaye Diop; Foreign Minister of Bolivia Celinda Sosa Lunda; Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi; Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita; and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu.
He also took part in a traditional BRICS Ministerial meeting held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Besides, Lavrov participated in a working meeting of the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) Foreign Ministers organized by Kazakhstan, which holds the rotating presidency in the post-Soviet security bloc this year.
