Russian diplomat describes UN General Assembly resolution on ZNPP as ‘politicized’
It will have no effect on the ground, Dmitry Polyansky said
UNITED NATIONS, July 12. /TASS/. Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky described the UN General Assembly’s resolution on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as a politicized project.
"Of course, this another nonconsensual, politicized draft will make absolutely no effect on the ground, as the previous ones. It may only unfortunately embolden the party of war in Europe, in the United States and in Ukraine, of course. They will try to pretend that this is kind of support of the international community for their efforts to keep Zelenskiy’s regime afloat by mobilizing a lot of Ukrainians who are absolutely not willing to fight," he said.
On Thursday, the UN General Assembly adopted a draft Ukrainian resolution demanding that Russia withdrew its troops from the territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The document was supported by 99 UNGA members out of 192. Nine countries (Belarus, Burundi, North Korea, Cuba, Mali, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria and Eritrea) voted against the document. Another 60 abstained.
Unlike UN Security Council resolutions, UN General Assembly’s resolutions are of advisory nature and non-binding.
Ukrainian troops regularly shell ZNPP infrastructure facilities and the city of Energodar. On July 3, Ukrainian drones attacked the Raduga substation, wounding nine ZNPP employees. The Raduga substation, which was partially damaged on June 21, has been the only substation feeding electricity to Energodar since June 19 after another substation, Luch was disable in a shelling attack. On June 5, the city’s authorities announced four-hour power outages every four hours.
