BRICS ready to get 'independent parliamentary dimension,' senior lawmaker believes
According to Leonid Slutsky, the main burden of creating a parliamentary dimension of BRICS will fall on the international affairs committees
MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. BRICS, as the most powerful integration bloc in the world, is ready to receive an "independent parliamentary dimension," the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) Leonid Slutsky said.
The lawmaker recalled that on July 11-12, St. Petersburg will host the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum with the participation of speakers of parliaments of the countries that are members of the association.
"This is the forum that will essentially consolidate what has become clear for a long time. At the modern stage, BRICS, as the most powerful integration bloc on the planet, is ready <...> in order to obtain an independent parliamentary dimension. We will not guess what it will be, perhaps, the BRICS Parliamentary Assembly. We will not guess when this will happen. It is important that all countries and parliaments generally agree with this," Slutsky said after a working meeting of the heads of the international affairs committees of the BRICS countries’ parliaments. According to him, in national parliaments, the main burden of creating a parliamentary dimension of BRICS will fall on the international affairs committees.
"Therefore, we specially gathered representatives of the relevant international affairs committees of the BRICS parliaments in April, a few months before the forum, synchronized watches in detail according to the algorithm, scenario, sequence of actions, and program of joint work, which now, on the eve of the St. Petersburg forum, should be qualitatively more dense, regular, and systematic than this has been before, when we gathered on the sidelines of regular meetings of the Interparliamentary Union for one and a half to two hours and called it the BRICS parliamentary forum," the head of the Duma committee said.
