Russian national flag, Victory banner hoisted at Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow
The Russian Foreign Ministry remarked that this would not impact the inviolability of the Ukrainian Embassy’s building, which remained the state property of Ukraine
MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. The national flag of Russia and the Victory Banner have been raised on the premises of the Ukrainian Embassy in downtown Moscow, according to a TASS correspondent.
The lease agreement for the land, where the Ukrainian Embassy sits in the Russian capital, was earlier terminated by the Moscow authorities as a retaliatory measure to a previously issued decision from the Kiev City Council to scrap the lease agreement for the land plot of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine.
However, the Russian Foreign Ministry remarked to TASS that this would not impact the inviolability of the Ukrainian Embassy’s building, which remained the state property of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Embassy is currently closed, but two flags can be seen flying from behind the fence of the diplomatic mission, having been raised on a flagpole in front of the diplomatic facility.
On February 22, 2022, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the evacuation of all of its personnel working at diplomatic missions in Ukraine to provide for their safety.
Later that day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced a decision to sever diplomatic ties with Russia and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared the evacuation of the country’s diplomats from the territory of Russia. Since then, the Embassies of Russia and Ukraine, in Moscow and Kiev respectively, remain vacated.
