Federation Council Speaker urges BRICS nations to form integrated technological space
"The sooner we as legislators will be able to form a legal basis the quicker our countries’ scientists will reach a new level of cooperation both for business and for investment," Valentina Matviyenko said
MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. BRICS countries should form an integrated technological space to implement projects in the scientific area, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.
"For implementing joint scientific and engineering projects it is important to form an integrated technological space. This also implies key legal regulations drawing together. And the sooner we as legislators will be able to form a legal basis the quicker our countries’ scientists will reach a new level of cooperation both for business and for investment, which is extremely important," she said at a meeting with heads of international affairs committees of BRICS members states’ parliaments.
The era of the fourth industrial revolution added new technologies to people’s life, Matviyenko noted. "Artificial intelligence, ‘internet of things’, pilotless and cloud technologies, blockchain, VR and AR technologies, with those areas becoming locomotives of socio-economic development of countries, though requiring modern, maybe even forward-looking legislative regulation," she said.
Following the tenth Parliamentary forum of BRICS countries, which will start on July 11 in St. Petersburg, proposals for BRICS summit will be readied "for the voice of parliaments of BRICS member states to be heard at the summit," Federation Council Speaker said.
Moreover, the areas of high technology, healthcare, environment, as well as culture and sports, are among prior areas of cooperation between Russia and BRICS nations, she added.
