Russia ready for any turn of events with NATO on issue of sending troops to Ukraine — MFA
"We have taken these aggressive statements under advisement," Maria Zakharova noted
MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Russia is ready for any developments with respect to NATO in connection with the potential deployment of Western troops in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
When asked at a news conference whether Russia had used diplomatic channels to request any clarifications from Paris on the issue of the potential deployment of troops in Ukraine, the diplomat said: "No, we have not requested any clarifications and we are not going to do so."
"We have taken these aggressive statements under advisement. We are ready for any turn of events. We have outlined our position," Zakharova went on to say.
The diplomat also pointed to the lukewarm response that the statements on the subject by French President Emmanuel Macron received from his EU and NATO allies, as they insisted they "did not sign up for this and did not understand what that was all about."
"The statements prompted rejection from the vast majority of French people, who also do not want to turn into cannon fodder, as Ukrainian people, for the regime of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for the sake of dangerous geopolitical ambitions of the ruling Western elites."
The French president previously said that the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine was brought up at a meeting in Paris that was attended by representatives from about 20 Western countries. According to Macron, there was no consensus on the matter, but this scenario shouldn’t be ruled out in the future.
