Russian diplomat blasts West’s 'reckless' silence on Kiev regime’s role in strikes on ZNPP

According to Maria Zakharova, a real peace-loving person would never approve of delivering strikes on a nuclear facility

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Western officials are throwing caution to the wind by not mentioning the Kiev regime when commenting on attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik Radio.

"It is reckless to claim that these attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant have no ties to the Kiev regime. This is what is reckless," she said.

The diplomat stressed that it is no secret why the West and all those in its sphere of influence, including a number of representatives from international organizations, are making such statements. "Since, as soon as they utter ‘an attack by the Kiev regime on the Zaporozhye NPP,’ it will completely shatter their myth of that free, democratic, legitimate institution (Ukraine - TASS) and its leader [Vladimir] Zelensky as a man of peace, the world and fancy magazine covers," Zakharova explained.

According to her, a real peace-loving person would never approve of delivering strikes on a nuclear facility. "Those who are sponsoring him constantly reiterate, literally at every conference, at every forum, remarks about ecology, the planet’s future, free will, as if never in their lifetime would they sponsor or even have anything to do with a person or group of people who deliver strikes on nuclear facilities. Yet they are doing this," the diplomat noted.

The spokeswoman stated that the West is not ready to explain itself to the global community. "As soon as they do that, the global community will ask: ‘Is it guaranteed that the next installment of aid you send to the Kiev regime won’t be used precisely here, against the Zaporozhye NPP?’ And who can provide such guarantees? Of course, nobody. And the next question will be: ‘Are there guarantees that if you don’t give Zelensky this new installment, he won’t increase the number of attacks to blackmail the West to provide this installment?’ And there is no such guarantee, because the West has already reared this monster," Zakharova concluded.

Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in his statement with regard to the situation around the ZNPP urged to halt "reckless" drone attacks on the nuclear facility as this increases the risk of a "dangerous nuclear accident." He also expressed "full support" for Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). That said, the top European diplomat did not lay the blame on anyone for striking the facility, only urging Russia to withdraw its forces from the ZNPP.
