MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Russia extended its sympathy to Mexican ambassador to Moscow Eduardo Villegas Megias following the April 5 storming of the country’s embassy to Ecuador, the Foreign Ministry said.
"The Russian side expressed solidarity with its Mexican colleagues following the April 5 events surrounding the Mexican embassy to Ecuador," the ministry said in a statement following the Mexican’s ambassador visit to the department. "Russia wished the affected Mexican diplomats a speedy recovery," the ministry added.

On April 5, Ecuadorian police stormed the Mexican Embassy in Quito and arrested former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who was hiding there and had been granted political asylum by the Mexican authorities. Mexico severed diplomatic relations with Ecuador, evacuating all its diplomatic staff and their families back to the country and closing the embassy. The country also promised to take criminal action against Ecuador at the International Court of Justice.
