Russian senate speaker highlights utter failure of West’s election interference attempts
According to Valentina Matviyenko, everything that Moscow’s opponents did to destabilize Russian society and discredit the election "turned back against them"
MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Unprecedented attempts to interfere in Russia’s presidential election from overseas only exposed the West’s powerlessness against the unity of the Russian people, Federation Council (upper house of parliament, or "senate") Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.
"All interference attempts from overseas - and they were simply unprecedented - failed miserably. The only thing they were able to do was pour green dye into ballot boxes at several polling stations. That’s all they can actually do. It was a demonstration of [their] powerlessness against our unified society. I would say this is already their death throes," the Federation Council speaker said at a plenary meeting of the upper house.
According to her, everything that Moscow’s opponents did to destabilize Russian society and discredit the election "turned back against them." "Our fellow citizens became even more unified and showed true unity and a sense of responsibility for the country’s future," Matviyenko emphasized.
