Cameroon wants to supply coffee, cocoa beans to Russia — ambassador

Russian-Cameroonian trade and economic ties are developing well but there is still room for growth, Georgy Todua stressed

NAIROBI, March 18. /TASS/. Cameroonian businessmen are interested in shipping coffee and cocoa beans to Russia but their production requires more investment from Russia, Ambassador to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea Georgy Todua told TASS in an interview.

"As regards cocoa and coffee, we see serious interest from both local exporters and national importers. The Cameroonian cocoa beans indeed have good taste features and high quality. The local coffee industry also has prospects but needs not merely buyers but also investors to increase productivity on account of using modern agricultural technologies. Russia and Cameroon can be useful to each other in this regard; therefore one of our key tasks is to help Russian and Cameroonian entrepreneurs come together, build appropriate partnerships, work out and establish supply chains," the Russian diplomat said.

Russian-Cameroonian trade and economic ties are developing well but there is still room for growth, Todua stressed. "Our exports are becoming more technology-related; we are beginning to move away from exclusively trading in commodities and switching to supplies of processing sector products to the global and the Cameroonian markets," the Ambassador noted. Trade volumes almost doubled in 2019-2023, including on account of supplies of Russian fertilizers, plant and equipment, he added.
