Russian election gets nod of approval from international observers — deputy senate speaker

The election was "fair and honest," Konstantin Kosachev said

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. International observers invited to monitor Russia’s presidential election by the country’s lawmakers raised no objections during the three-day voting period, Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev said.

"I’m in touch on the phone with many foreign observers who were monitoring the presidential election on our invitation. I’ve held several dozen conversations and I would like to point out that there has been no criticism of what they saw, heard and took note of," the senator wrote on Telegram.

"The general consensus - albeit unofficial at this point - is that the election was in line with the highest international standards; it was fair and honest," Kosachev added.

Russia held its presidential election on March 15-17. Voting took place over three days for the first time ever and incorporated online voting, which was available in about one-third of the country’s regions.
