Russian election commission goes extra mile in voter outreach
The election commission spent a total of 522 years talking to voters
MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. Members of Russia’s local election commission took over 33 bln steps, equivalent to 30 round trips from the Earth to the Moon, to inform voters about the election, Central Election Commission (CEC) member Elmira Khaimurzina said.
"[Going door to door], they took over 33 billion steps during the 20-day campaign. That’s like walking around the Earth along the equator 578 times or 30 trips to the Moon and back," Khairmuzina said at a CEC meeting.
According to her, the election commission spent a total of 522 years talking to voters.
Local election commission members taking part in the information campaign met with more than 43.5 mln voters from February 17 and March 7.
A campaign to inform voters about the 2024 presidential election was conducted for the first time and involved 88 regions of the country (Moscow was not included). Local election commission members told voters how the vote would be held, informing them about ways to cast their ballots and answering their questions. A special mobile app was created to facilitate this process.
