Voter turnout in presidential election in DPR exceeds 86%
Voting in the DPR is organized at polling stations and outside them. People living close to the combat engagement line could take part in early voting from February 25
DONETSK, March 16. /TASS/. Voter turnout in Russia’s presidential election in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has exceeded 86%, chairman of the DPR election commission Vladimir Vysotsky said.
"Voter turnout as of today amounted to 86.75%, which is quite impressive," he said.
Voting in the DPR is organized at polling stations and outside them. People living close to the combat engagement line could take part in early voting from February 25. Early voting in thee rest of the DPR was held from March 10 to 14.
The Federation Council, the upper house of Russia’s parliament, officially designated March 17, 2024 as the day of the presidential election. The Central Election Commission (CEC) then announced that voting would take place over three days on March 15-17.
Four candidates are vying for the top office, namely New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov.
