On March 15, the first of three voting days in the Russian presidential election is over

On March 15, the first of three voting days in the Russian presidential election is over. The last polling stations closed in the Kaliningrad Region at 8:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT).

According to the latest data from the CEC, voter turnout in the country was 36.1%. As many as 38.6 million people took part in the voting, including 3.4 million online.

Four candidates are vying for the presidency, namely New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov.
