Putin invited to G20 summit in Rio, up to him whether to attend — Brazilian sherpa
It is reported that the Russian leader will have "to make a decision on whether to visit Brazil, based on his schedule"
NEW YORK, March 13. /TASS/. Brazil, holding the G20 presidency in 2024, has sent an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the summit to be hosted by Rio de Janeiro in November, but leaders make independent decisions on whether to take part in the event, Brazilian sherpa Mauricio Lirio told TASS.
"He (Russian President Vladimir Putin - TASS) has already been invited. Invites have been sent to all G20 members <...> with a tentative date. The host country invites countries to attend meetings as it begins its presidency," the Brazilian diplomat said, adding that the Russian leader will have "to make a decision on whether to visit Brazil, based on his schedule," he added.
Brazil took over the rotating G20 presidency on December 1, 2023. The forum will hold its 2024 summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.
