MOSCOW, March 8. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on pardon for 52 female convicts, the Kremlin press office announced on March 8.

"While making this decision, the head of state was guided by humanitarian considerations. First and foremost, the pardon covers women with minor children, pregnant women and women, whose relatives are involved in the special military operation," the press office said.

The right of the President of Russia to pardon convicts is enshrined in the Article 89 of the Russian Constitution. The Russian law also provides for an amnesty procedure, which is not individual. In 2023, Putin spoke about an option of amnesty for ‘certain categories of women’ in detention.
