More than 200 foreign monitors confirm they will keep an eye on Russian election — senator

Each delegation will have the support of Russian senators and technical personnel

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. More than 200 foreign legislators, invited by the Federal Assembly, have already confirmed their participation in monitoring Russia’s forthcoming presidential election, the Federation Council’s deputy speaker, Konstantin Kosachev, has said.

"As of today, more than 200 lawmakers have already confirmed to the Federal Assembly their participation as observers. They are mainly our parliamentary colleagues from 5 international parliamentary organizations and 28 national parliaments. Many of them are coming as individual monitors. They will represent 35 countries," Kosachev told the FC’s plenary session.

He emphasized that confirmations kept coming.

"This information concerns only Federal Assembly-invited monitors. Of course, there will be many more observers. We are aware of our great responsibility for ensuring they enjoy normal conditions," Kosachev said.

Each delegation will have the support of Russian senators and technical personnel.

"It is clear that we, first of all, cooperate with our colleagues who are members of the relevant friendship groups or bilateral commissions," Kosachev stated.

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko also called for creating conditions for the observers’ unhampered and normal activity.
