Russia, NATO face danger of direct armed conflict in Europe — ambassador to US
"Now there is a talk about the participation of soldiers from NATO armies in combat operations," Anatoly Antonov noted
WASHINGTON, March 5. /TASS/. Russia and NATO are facing the danger of a direct armed clash in Eastern Europe, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told reporters.
"In fact, we are facing the danger of a direct clash between the armed forces of Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance in Eastern Europe," the Russian ambassador was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the Russian Embassy's Telegram channel.
"Until recently, it was impossible to imagine that American and German tanks would be driving on the fields of the country neighboring with Russia," he continued. "Then, it became obvious to everyone that Western specialists are actively helping Ukrainian armed forces with the maintenance of expensive equipment like Patriots, and with target guidance."
"Thus, we can consider this to be a participation of NATO soldiers in military operations. Such a scenario cannot be implemented without Washington’s approval," Antonov stated.
"I am convinced that farmers in America, Europe and Russia are primarily interested in peaceful life and an opportunity to cultivate their land without fear for the future. But unfortunately, the local "hawks" who are pushing the planet towards a third world war, are indifferent to their aspirations," Russia’s top envoy to the United States added.
