Russian military commander reveals US Abrams tank’s vulnerabilities
According to earlier reports, Russian troops destroyed and knocked out of operation two Abrams tanks and an evacuation vehicle based on the Abrams tank in battles with the Ukrainian army near Avdeyevka
MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. An FPV (first-person view) drone can cripple a US-made Abrams tank by a direct hit at its rear, a Russian UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) team commander with the call sign Rassvet said on Monday.
"To deliver a targeted strike at its rear part where the radiator and the engine compartment are located. Or to stop it, hit its tracks and try to strike it under its turret. This has to be done quickly and smoothly," the commander said in a video posted on the Telegram channel of the People’s Front, adding that his team had encountered no difficulties in destroying the tank.
Rassvet told TASS on March 1 that Russian troops had destroyed and knocked out of operation two Abrams tanks and an evacuation vehicle based on the Abrams tank in battles with the Ukrainian army near Avdeyevka over the past few days. TASS reported later that Russian troops had destroyed another Abrams tank near Avdeyevka after two hits by an Upyr FPV drone.
A US-made Abrams tank was spotted at the frontline for the first time on February 25. This occurred northwest of Avdeyevka that Russian troops had placed under their full control shortly before that. Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo said on February 26 that the personnel of the Russian army’s 15th separate motorized infantry brigade had destroyed an Abrams tank despite its extra reactive armor. Social media rapidly circulated footage showing the tank’s destruction and the armored vehicle burning down. The following day, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the tank’s destruction.
