US to augment pressure on independent states, including Russia — security chief

MANAGUA /Nicaragua/, February 27. /TASS/. Washington will evidently intensify political and economic pressure on independent countries, including Russia and Latin American nations, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev said.

"The United States aggressive methods of overthrowing government it doesn’t like and exerting political and economic pressure on countries, which demonstrate their independence, are well-known," he said at the security consultations with representatives from Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia.

"We believe that these instruments will continue to be used, even more persistently, not only against Russia, but also against a number of Latin American countries. Especially bearing in mind that some of our countries will enter the election period this and next year," Patrushev said, adding that Latin American countries understand only too well "the situation Russia is currently facing in terms of the sanction pressure.".
